Summer Into Fall

I adore autumn. There is something about the crisp, coolness of the air, the vivid leaf colors, the comforting smells of cinnamon and spice, and the anticipation of the upcoming holidays that has always won autumn the title of 'favorite season' for me.

One of my favorite signals that fall is approaching are our Crape Myrtles. They are gorgeous year-round, whether it be their leaves or their bark, but ... from late summer into fall, they are stunning show-stoppers.

As the rest of the garden is withering into a state of brownness, these beautiful plants are in their prime, with an eye-catching show of berry-like buds that transform into colorful, popcorn-like blooms.

In my opinion, they are a perfectly cheerful way to close out the summer months and add an additional pop of unexpected color in the fall. And, really ... who couldn't use that?!

I love fall as well. And in my backyard, my faithful Autumn Joy plants are the ones that tell me my favorite season is about to arrive.

Those are beautiful. I love summer. I like fall very much. I tolerate winter. :)

I'm learning to love Autumn for itself and not look at it as the prelude to winter. Each season is more beautiful with a camera in hand. Lovely post all around. :)

I have to admit that your post title made me a little sad. I also adore fall, but I hate to see summer end. Then, as I read further, I was inspired by all the new things that fall can bring!

HAp Hap Happy Autumn to you too :)

Our crepe myrtles haven't bloomed very well this year. Yours look awesome.

I love Hilary's comment. Lovely

Lovely images! I hadn’t even realized it was the start of fall today – it was 80 in Maine so we went to the beach after school. I adore autumn too, but it goes by to quickly in Maine.

Our crepe myrtles hit their high point in late July/ early August, so I've never thought of them as harbingers of fall. It's so interesting to see how the same plants differ depending where you plant them!

I'm SO ready for fall. We have temps in the low 90's here, and I'm ready for a good chill!

Fall is my favorite season. I love the colors, the slight tang of cold in the air, the crisp sound of leaves.

Me too, Miss Kelly! I love the day temps in the mid-70s and evenings in the mid-50s. I love football games and pumpkin scented candles too. And then there's the fact that my daughter and I have birthdays in October! Happy autumn to you too!
