A Fiery Red Visitor

This past weekend was my son's 7th birthday bash - a Lego extravaganza! He was ear-to-ear smiles! We lucked out with a gorgeous day on Saturday ... comfortably warm with a slight breeze and flawless blue skies.

As we were decorating the tables outside, this little guy flew in for a visit. I've never seen one like it, and I'm not sure exactly what it is. To me ... it looks like a dragonfly. But, I'm not sure those come in a fiery-red variety.

I skimmed through a few lists of bugs ... but, I can only take so much of that before feeling like they're crawling up my legs and through my hair! I did find a similar-looking one called a Red Skimmer, but I'm sticking with the Red Dragonfly!

If you know what it is, let me know!

As for the rest of this week ... our big 7-year old, who has hardly been sick a day in his life, is very much a sick young man. He's got lymph node swelling in his neck giving him the look of a football player and making him unable to move his neck and head. That, combined, with a constant fever, has me a bit distracted. The doctor has ruled out several things, and we'll be re-visiting in a few days to see if the lymph nodes are shrinking back to their normal size, or if further investigation is warranted!

So ... please think good thoughts that our young man - who has been such a trooper while clearly not feeling well - will be back to his normal scooter-riding, bike-jumping, Lego-obsessed, silly, sweet, energetic self soon.

Oh no! There's nothing more stressful than sick kiddos. We spent the 4th of July in the emergency room because our 4-year-old was so sick he had a hard time breathing. Not fun. We'll be thinking of you guys. Keep us posted!

Hope he feels much better soon! And no idea on the bug, so I'll go with your guess.

I'm not sure what that bug is, and I don't think I want to know (I really don't like bugs), but I will be thinking about and praying for your son. I hate it when my kids are sick. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about you seven-year old. I hope they'll diagnose it soon so he can be treated. Praying for him and the rest of your family.

(I have a brand new seven year old boy too.)

That bug is amazing! I have never seen a red dragon fly before either. My son loved legos as a child too! Actually I think he still has them somewhere. It's the engineer in them.

Sorry about your son being sick! Even now that my kids are 19 and 24 I still worry about them when they are sick. I guess that never goes away.

Hi Kelly, thanks for visiting my blog! You have a gorgeous family, and I'm so sorry to read about your son. Summer colds and such are no fun. My son Ben is 10 and he woke up with the creep and crud too. It must be going around. I love your blog title, Crossing your T's! So cute! I look forward to reading more of your posts. I love meeting other writers through blogging. It makes this journey even more fun.

Sending bunches of hugs and prayers..

My hubby had an infection once that swelled him up like a the Potato Head Man when he was around seven. He recently showed me pics.. Antibiotics cured it.

It's such a bummer to be sick during summer vacation! Hope he's feeling better soon.

And the bug looks cool, especially on the purple flower.

Oh, there is nothing worse when you don't know how to make your little one get better...Here's to a fast recovery for your birthday boy!

BTW, the red dragonfly is cool.

Oh, I hope he's feeling better. It's not strep or mono? I will keep him in my thoughts.

About your fiery red bug, did you go to www.whatsthatbug.com. This guys amazing. He knows everything buggy. I once had these pine needly things in my trees. I thought it was a cocoon of some type. But now, this bug man knew what it was right away - a bag worm, eewoo! He said I needed to pull them all off my tree and burn them. We did just that. So, if anyone will know what your little friend is, he will!

Again, I hope your son is better.

Sorry it turned out to be Mono. That can be serious but now that he's on meds I bet he'll start feeling better in no time.
